— read in fullLondon named world’s second best city for international students
Feb 15, 2012
A league table of 50 world cities puts the English capital just behind Paris.
The reputation of a city’s universities, the mix of students and various ‘quality of life’ factors such as cost of living and crime rates were all considered in the research conducted by QS Best Student Cities, which aimed to find the best 50 cities for international students to study in. However, while London beat almost every city of the nearly 500 surveyed on most measures, it was pushed into second place by Paris due to the high tuition fees international students are charged to study there – which can be as much as £20,000 in London, compared to £1,000 in Paris.
The 10 best cities were:
- Paris, France
- London, UK
- Boston, US
- Melbourne, Australia
- Vienna, Austria
- Sydney, Australia
- Zurich, Switzerland
- Berlin, Germany
- Dublin, Ireland
- Montreal, Canada
