Space travel makes you ugly

astronautAn astrobiologist has claimed that going into space could seriously damage your looks.

It might be cool to be an astronaut, but Dr Lewis Dartness thinks there could be some down sides.

Living without gravity could cause people to become extremely weak, and start piling on the pounds, he claims.

Travelling to another world could take generations, with men and women having to live on board a spaceship for their entire lives. There is a possibility that future humans could be hairless, as there would be no need for hair to insulate them in the controlled environments on board ship.

"Without gravity, fluid would float up to pool in the skull, which would cause the head to look permanently swollen out of proportion," Dartness added.

Luckily, though, what space cadets lose in looks they more than make up for in cool. ‘Astronaut’ is consistently voted one of the top 10 coolest jobs to do.
